Data Cloud: the data basis for segmentation and activation

When data is spread across CRM, website, events and other systems, marketing becomes hard to steer. Data Cloud brings data together, creates a unified profile and makes segments usable for marketing and sales - so that impact becomes traceable.

What is a CDP?

A customer data platform (CDP) is a system that collects customer data from different touchpoints, organises it and merges it into one consistent profile. This so-called unified profile can then be used by other systems - for marketing, service, analytics or experience.

Exactly this logic describes the problem in many B2B setups: personalisation is expected, the data is fragmented, and in the end a shared basis for segmentation and activation is missing - and the customer experience suffers.

Focus

Why do you need a CDP?

01

Because otherwise customer data stays in silos

In B2B, sales cycles are long, buying centres complex and touchpoints spread out. When data sits in separate systems, inconsistencies arise.

Segmentation is based on flat customer information instead of real audience behaviour.

Without this foundation, campaigns miss the audience, sales and marketing work with different lists, and budget flows into measures whose impact nobody can prove.

02

Marketing and sales see different “truths”

The influence of marketing measures cannot be traced through to the deal.

Personalisation becomes either too generic or too laborious.

A CDP does not help you collect "more data". It helps you bring data into a model that can be managed and analysed.

Why Salesforce Data Cloud?

Strengths of Data Cloud

Data Cloud positions itself as the data foundation within the Salesforce platform. The goal is to make profiles and segments available where teams work.

  • Unified profile as the basis: Data Cloud consolidates data into a unified profile that serves as the basis for segmentation and personalisation.
  • Segmentation for activation: From the unified profile come segments that can drive marketing processes and campaigns, especially in combination with Marketing Cloud Next.
  • Connecting identities (identity resolution): Data Cloud is designed to merge profiles from different sources. That matters when multiple IDs, duplicates and system boundaries exist.
  • Use cases beyond marketing: Because profiles and segments can also be used for service, analytics and AI, Data Cloud becomes a shared data asset, not just a marketing tool.
Approach

Our approach

01

Use cases first, platform second

Data Cloud is powerful. So that it does not become a “CDP for the CDP’s sake”, we start with clear use cases. Which segments do you really need? Which signals should become usable in sales and marketing? Which decisions do you want to make with the data?

02

Data picture in the CRM context

We design the data model to fit your B2B processes. In your setup, lead/contact, account, opportunities/orders and tracking signals are typically relevant.

03

Activation with clear governance

We set up segmentation and activation logic so that it can be operated day to day: clear standards, documented rules, traceable ownership.

Use cases

Typical use cases

01

Segmentation across CRM + behavioural signals (website, events)

Segments emerge from CRM attributes and actual behaviour: pages visited, content downloaded, events attended. Audiences can be separated by interest and maturity, not just by industry and company size.

02

Account and buying-centre views instead of single leads

Signals of individual people are merged at account level so that the whole buying centre becomes visible. Sales sees which roles are active and where attention is missing.

03

Triggers for journeys (e.g. segment changes, status changes)

Segment changes and status changes automatically trigger the right communication. Journeys respond to real behaviour instead of fixed campaign dates.

04

Pipeline-related reporting foundations

Touchpoints are linked to opportunities so that influence and contribution logic becomes calculable. Marketing can prove its contribution to the pipeline instead of estimating it.

05

Where Data Cloud creates value quickly in B2B

The first benefit appears where data already exists but is separated: CRM plus website tracking. A clearly scoped use case delivers impact faster than a fully modelled setup.
